It is really worth the nearly one-time investment of doing your long term food storage in the specialized long term freeze dried canned food. Rodents and bugs can't get into it and you are guaranteed the maximum shelf life which makes it one investment every ten to twenty years. I don't care how far anyone likes to play expiration dates on regular grocery store food, once you commit to it as the bulk of your supply, you will constantly run into waste, vermin, and shelf life issues.

Ran into a mouse issue with MRE's and freeze dried chow just sitting on the shelf. You gotta put them in buckets to keep them safe from the critters.

Just a suggestion.

Went through that myself about 4 yrs. ago. If its not in a can or jar, it goes into a bucket.
