I'am sure most know about this but just an FYI for others.

Cattails :
a good black fly and mosquito repellant.
cut the old stalks off about 2ft or so and put near campsite of if just sitting out side ,,then light the brown heads like you would a torch . bugs hate the unpleasant odor .
Also mashed up Catail flowers make a good salve for cuts,scratches or burns. And the sticky juice between the young leaves makes an excellant antiseptic,anaesthetic and stypic.
