Food Bar Question - 08/03/2006 06:27 PM

I am a CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)team member. I keep my gear bag in my truck year round for deployment. I thought I would ask you guys about this question I have since you guys are the experts in the field.

I already stock two blocks of the standard lifeboat 2800 cal. foil packaged ration packs but I would also like something a bit more handy. Has anyone created a temperature stable 1 year shelf life energy bar that I could stock? Thanks for your help.

As far as I know, those lifeboat rations are the only thing that will take the heat.

Energy bars usually have too much stuff that turns rancid in heat.

Sorry.

You will probably be fine. More likely you will get constipation than diarreah. I have some that are about a year out of date and used myself as a guinie pig. I was fine.

Of course if you have a touchy digestive tract you might still have issues. I have a cast iron stomach.
