Staying or Going?

Staying or Going? - 07/27/2007 07:23 PM

TSHTF...
Nothing locally, other than sheeple starting to get uneasy, perhaps some looting and whatnot, but you foresee that the local law agencies may soon begin road blocks, martial law or other things.
Are you staying or going?

I personally rent (and therefore can't really prep the property much), live in a crappy neighborhood, and live in kinda a strategically crappy valley... so I'm running.. hopefully I'll have a set up in the woods with caches on the way, but we'll see.

And You?

You're saying get in contact with the rest of the unit, organize, then follow SOP & ROE?

As the shepard said to the sheep. Get the flock outta here.

My AO sucks for about 10 miles in any direction, after that I have cover, conceament, food, water and shelter.

Id leave ASAP if TSHTF.This house is nice and all,but for a defensive position or ANYTHING else it aint worth a thing.

My house (and EVERYTHING IN IT) is crap as far as I am concerned. NUTTIN WORTH DEFENDING unless my family is in it, of course. "Whomever" can have it ALL with my blessings! As long as I and mine can get to safe haven, we're good!

I'm in CaHermits AO and we'll BOTH have a nice dash to the hills ahead of us. But, they're there (i.e. the hills) and we are gonna be [there] if TSHTF!! wink

I'd rather be in the forest than an urban environment, ANY DAY of the week!! At least there's game, lakes, rivers and streams, caves, and natural cover. Ghillie up! wink laugh

I'm far enough out in the boonies that I plan, initialy, to dig in where I am if the scenario is of the natural disaster type, or terrorist event in some far off city, etc.. If the scenario is more of a martial law, blanket gun grab sort of thing, then I'm outta here. Stash my family safely away and then start recon ops to figure out whats going on. Hopefully finding my place still intact when it's over. So much depends on the actual scenario and how it plays out. That and serious OPSEC on the details of any plan you have in mind.

Total Urban, fellas.

This is what I know and where I will stay. I lived in the worst neighborhood in all of South America (picture the worst parts of L.A. only worse) and know how to live in unfriendly territory. If I go to ground in the urban... Iraq and Vietnam proved that an urban environment is unfriendly to enemy, not the locals. All the fancy gadgets that armies come up with are completely useless in the urban environment. Food can be acquired in many ways. Don't count the urbanites out just yet.

CAHermit,
Since you are posing a hypothetical scenario, I think this thread would be better suited as training material.
However, given that you have posed the question, I will ask another, that I would rather have you ponder than respond:

Do you have caches in all likely egress directions?

If not, then when TEOTWAWKI you are scrod.

Expert tutelage in caching is one of the reasons for which I owe a great deal of respect and gratitude to our liberated POW FalSarge.

CaHermit,

First. Do a Threat Assessment for your A/O.

Then prepare a Evacuation Plan that includes multiple Safe Houses and numerous alternate routes to get there.

Ask yourself a lot of questions.
When will I need to go? Where will I go? How will I get there? What will I take with me? Who will I need to contact and how will I contact them? etc. etc.

And, Have several 72 hour BoB's ready to go at all times. Keep the vehicles ready to go and have a pre packed emergency kit ready to load up when you have to bug.

I'm actually doing most of the things you suggested, CSC...
The 'when' is kinda something I need to get specific on, like 'if this happens: yes, if this happens: no'...
Currently I have NO caches other than my stores.
First I'm going to have to get specific about the final destination of the trip, then I can plan routes, more safe houses, and caches.
How I will get there is pretty much answered; vehicle, animal or foot... in that order.
I have Stores prioritized. If we take 1 vehicle we take highest priority supplies, but we plan to take a vehicle with a trailer, which will hold all of our stores (everything from brand new clothing, to ammo, guns, propane, stoves, files, tools, books, sleeping bags, tents, boots, food, water etc.).
Who I will need to contact isn't much of a priority, as my family has already been informed of the general area I'm going to, and my unit is too small to warrant contacting anyone.
The BoB s are under construction...

How exactly do you prioritize routes to a new AO for Caching?

Those of you living in a urban area should think twice before leaving. You know the city you live in and know the lay out. If you prepare to stay you may be better off.

If you decide to bug out, do you know where you are going and do you know the AO? Do you have a route already layed out and fuel to get there?

If you decide to hole up in the city you should prepare for water and electricity to be cut off. Deffinately stock up on fuel, food, water, ammo, and medical supplies.

My personnal decision would be to stay in the city if I have lived there for a number of years and knew the city very well. It will be a different kind of survival than in the country, but city survivalist should be able to survive.

I'm going to keep staying, I'm in my retreat, but I have others when it becomes necessary..
