Ruining Children In Order to Save Them - 01/29/2010 04:14 PM

13-year-old boy and 12-year-old gir...ng pictures of themselves to each other.

It's a good thing we didn't have cell phones in my day.

bad laws make bad cases.

with these scanners going in airports, the TSA goons will be watching child porn if they scan a kid.

Also, Congress passed a child-porn law (that the USSC gutted, thankfully) that would have made watching the movie "Titanic" a felony (since the two protagonists were supposedly under 18, and simulated having sex).

Sure...but it doesn't count if the government does it.

this subject really pisses me off. first off, how the hell can you exploit yourself? Doing it to yourself defies the very concept of exploitation.

and second... FTA "An Ohio program requires juveniles charged in sexting cases to relinquish their cell phones and attend classes on the legal and emotional consequences of sexting"

There wouldn't really be any consequences if these idiots didn't make a damn federal case out of it. Teach the kids, don't make them criminals for being young.

when being young becomes a felony, we are truly screwed as a society.

In my day, we called it "playing doctor" (and that's about all I'm going to say about that). Since we were together in person, it was actually worse than texting is nowadays. If we'd been caught, there definitely would have been holy hell to pay for it--but getting arrested? And charged with a felony?

It probably would have been better than dodging her father's buckshot, but still...

I still remember when the Polaroid camera's came out during the sixties. Boy, the kids had fun with those...nothing like instant pictures.

I still remember playing show-and-show some more with three neighborhood girls at about the age of 6 in one of the girls playhouse.... life was pretty much downhill from there.

It really shows the power madness that has consumed the thinking of public officials (formerly called "public servants").

It has no good result for the kids, no good results for the parents, and it only makes them desensitized to further exploration through their sick counseling techniques.

That's it in a nutshell. They have the ability to do it, and so they will. Can anyone explain how arresting these two children protects society?

With that in mind, here's another passage from that same news story:

Quote
Illinois legislation is pending to make it illegal to upload on the Internet or disseminate a video of someone without their consent or with the intent to cause harm.
"The intent to cause harm?" Just how do you define "harm?" Can you be any more vague than that?

Imagine what power-mad bureaucrats can do with a law like that. mad

Probably the single worst stigma that can be put on anybody in our modern society is to get listed in the felony sex offender registries, and that is what the state is trying to do to those two kids.

Today the news reports that fed.gov is going after the BCS, since they obviously have solved all other pressing problems in the US and now have time to go after college football....

Or it's a symptom of tertiary power madness...

Just so we're clear about this. Children who send explicit photos of themselves to other children get hit with felony charges. Cops who send explicit photos of themselves to children get probation.

Seems logical to me.
