It's because the Fed uses Real Personal Income Expenditures, or PCE , rather than the Consumer Price Index used by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

But, as the Reserve Bank of St. Louis points out, the PCE actually leaves out food and energy costs . Um, can you guess what's been rising lately?

No inflation???

Obviously they haven't been to the gas station or the grocery store lately.
