http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100722/...W5iYXR0bGVzcGE- Gunbattles paralyze Mexican city across from TexasNuevo Laredo, Mexico – Late-night gunbattles with gangs who forced citizens from their cars and used the vehicles to block streets paralyzed a border city, sound of gunfire alarmed Texans on the U.S. side of the Rio Grande. The Nuevo Laredo city government posted messages on Facebook warning citizens to stay indoors as the battles erupted at several intersections in the city across from Laredo, Texas. Frightened people on the U.S. side of the border called emergency dispatchers after hearing the gunfire, Laredo police spokesman Joe Baeza said Thursday. But he said there was no spillover violence. "We were getting reports from people who live on the river's edge that they could hear gunfire and explosions from the Mexico side," Baeza said. "We didn't have any incidents on the American side. It's hard for people to understand who don't live here," he added. "They're not Vikings, they're not going to invade us, it doesn't work that way." Nuevo Laredo city officials said they could not immediately confirm witness reports that several gunmen were killed. Gangs used stolen cars and buses to block several main avenues in the city across from Laredo, Texas. Several residents called local newspapers to report thefts. "For your security, stay in your homes until the alert has passed," the city government wrote on Facebook. When the violence subsided, the government urged citizens to come forward and reclaim their stolen vehicles. Nuevo Laredo is among several northern cities under siege from a turf battle between the Gulf cartel and its former enforcers, the Zetas gang of hit men. Violence has surged along the northeastern border with the United States since the two gangs split earlier this year. Gangs have frequently blocked streets in the middle of the cities to thwart soldiers coming to the aid of colleagues under fire. In the northern state of Chihuahua, a banner appeared on a bridge threatening violence against "innocents" unless the state government fires its chief of police intelligence, Fernando Ornelas, the Diario de Juarez newspaper reported Thursday. The banner appeared in the state capital, also called Chihuahua. Last week, drug gangs introduced a new threat to Mexico's drug war, detonating their first successful car bomb. The attack killed a federal police officer and two others in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua's largest city. ************************************************* Graphic example of what the Mexican drug gangs are doing to each other... http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/43251/

This reported activity across our border is claimed to be confirmed by some and nothing but a rumor by others. Take the time to read all the links in the news articles. Whether the events occurred as reported or not...this situation bears close scrutiny. It is a fact that the Los Zetas are waging a war in northern Mexico that has the potential to spill across our border. So the Mexican citizens call up the newspaper when their stuff gets stolen? Wow! You know there's no confidence in the police when people would rather report thefts to the newspaper.

Word is that the Gulf Cartel is massing to try to retake Nuevo Laredo from Los Zetas.

Police find 8 severed heads in northern Mexico MEXICO CITY — The severed heads of eight men were found left in pairs along highways in the northern Mexico state of Durango, state prosecutors said Tuesday. The bodies had not yet been located, but the victims appeared to have been between 25 and 30 years old, officials said. Durango has been the scene of brutal turf battles between drug gangs. Prosecutors said over the weekend that officials at a Durango prison let drug cartel gunmen to leave penitentiary and lent them guns and vehicles to carry out executions. Also Tuesday, prosecutors in the central state of Puebla reported that three federal police agents were shot to death on a highway in a confrontation with gunmen. The assailants escaped. Thanks for the update.
This means if nothing else shows up this supposed incident can be considered to have been proven false and this case is now closed.
But it could have been proven to be true, and that would be a totally different ball game.

Arizona Sheriff: ‘Our Own Government Has Become Our Enemy’ Monday, August 02, 2010 By Penny Starr, Senior Staff Writer (Correction: As initially posted, this story inaccurately said that Pinal County was contiguous with the Mexican border. It is in southern Arizona, but not on the border.) (CNSNews.com) – Pinal County (Ariz.) Sheriff Paul Babeu is hopping mad at the federal government. Babeu told CNSNews.com that rather than help law enforcement in Arizona stop the hundreds of thousands of people who come into the United States illegally, the federal government is targeting the state and its law enforcement personnel. “What’s very troubling is the fact that at a time when we in law enforcement and our state need help from the federal government, instead of sending help they put up billboard-size signs warning our citizens to stay out of the desert in my county because of dangerous drug and human smuggling and weapons and bandits and all these other things and then, behind that, they drag us into court with the ACLU,” Babeu said. We cant spend our way out of this. The State citizenry will have to step up to the plate and fill the gap. After all its their home turf. If that's not worth fighting for, what is? If that's not enough, then possible out of town talent may be required. This is where the local militia's come into play. This is what we are supposed to be training for. Sorry if I'm over stating the obvious here. The whole send money thing is over played. Every time I turn around someones hitting you up for money.
Fight the fight, Endure to win!

Did you notice they are wanting to buy "Arizona made rifles"? Maybe they intend to snub club feds firearm laws too.

I caught that, and I hope AZ flips BATFE the bird, just like Montana is doing. On a related note: Would not a Constitutionally minded Sheriff create a posse, and would that citizen posse not technically be comprised of militia? Interesting (end)times!
I would gladly lay aside the use of arms and settle matters by negotiation, but unless the whole will, the matter ends, and I take up my battle rifle, and thank God that He has put it within my grasp.

http://www.hcnonline.com/articles/2010/08/05/kingwood_observer/news/31kopoetownhall.txt Border sheriff shares views at local town hall meeting By COREY L. TURNER Updated: 08.04.10 According to Sigifredo Gonzalez, the sheriff of Zapata County, the battle on the Texas border is best described as “domestic terrorism.” “How many more police officers have to die? The border is not owned by the United States or Mexico - it is owned by the drug cartels,” Gonzalez said to the crowd at Congressman Ted Poe’s town hall meeting at Lone Star College-Kingwood July 31. It was the second town hall meeting of the week for the District 2 congressman. Like many communities along the Texas-Mexico border, Zapata County, just south of Laredo, has been ravaged by crime and other issues surrounding illegal immigration, according to Gonzalez. He compared members of the drug cartels to terrorists and said the brutal acts along the border coincide with the FBI’s definition of domestic terrorism. On May 4, 2005, Gonzalez met with 15 other sheriffs who worked along the border in order to share methods in combating the border violence. During that discussion, the sheriffs came to the conclusion that more intense crimes, involving the Mexican drug cartels, were reaching American soil. As a result, the sheriffs reached out to various elected officials on the federal level. “On July 7, 2005, we had a meeting in Del Rio and nobody showed up,” Gonzalez said. The lack of help from the federal government led to the creation of the Texas Border Sheriff's Coalition “It was formed from our frustration for the federal government’s inability to protect the border,” Gonzalez said. The sheriff shared gruesome stories that ranged from brutal beatings to beheadings. He also pointed out that many Americans don’t even feel safe on their own ranches anymore. Some town hall attendees said they knew that violent offenses were occurring at the border but not to such an extent. “I think most of us knew the facts, but the thing that struck home the most to me was the fact that we’re doing so little about it at a federal level,” Tom Yarbrough, a guest at the meeting, said. “You leave it in the hands of these fine gentleman at the local level for a while but they’re fighting a military that exists as competent as ours is, but on the other side of the fence. It’s just scary.” Poe invited the sheriff to share his first-hand experiences with the local residents and expressed how dangerous the drug cartels have become. Poe said policy should focus on stopping them from coming across in the first place and made a number of recommendations, including getting the National Guard to the actual border. “The Mexican drug cartels are fighting over turf to come into the United States,” Poe said. “They are much more violent than what we have seen in the past with the Columbian cartels.” Poe also shared various stories of immigration concerns he has witnessed in recent months, including warning signs along Interstate 8 in Arizona that advise travelers to stay away from certain areas due to drug traffickers and illegals in the area. Poe recently shared the same story on the House floor with pictures of the sign. But some attendees disagreed with parts of Poe’s presentation, including Russ James. The Kingwood resident says he agrees that changes are necessary but had an issue with how the congressman presented some of the information. “With all the heated rhetoric about illegal immigration, loss of border control and the latest actions regarding Arizona’s new SB 1070 law, it would seem that the whole story needs to be told, not just hot-button rhetoric to stir the public into a frenzy,” James said in an e-mail following the event. Following the meeting, James challenged Poe’s staff to get all of the “accurate information.” Poe’s office says the congressman regularly travels to the southern border and is recognized by the Texas Border Sheriffs Coalition as a top supporter of law enforcement and border security. Most recently, Poe facilitated the process to secure six retired U.S. Army Humvees for Texas border sheriffs. Gonzalez remains hopeful that similar efforts will continue and that he and other agencies along the border will receive more aid soon. “We are trying to prevent people from coming across border, many who have previous charges of rape, shooting a police officer or other charges. These problems are coming to a neighborhood near you,” he said. “This is not a red or blue issue. This is a red, white and blue issue affecting our country.”

Their coalition is a good idea IF it has teeth and it probably doesn't.
Hit these people coming across the border, suround them and give them a choice of submit and drop weapons or die. End of story.
If they need more bodies, and they do, deputize some men with mil training and experience, have each deputy lead what are essentially squads, 2-3 fireteams apiece.
Seems easy enough. If they bring in heavy weapons, withdraw initially and then set up reserve forces with appropriate heavy weapons on our side of the border. There is nothing preventing PDs and SDs from obtaining RPGs and beltfeds, grenades, etc.
Slam the door on them hard and they will stop coming.
You can't fight without fighting. It is neither feasible, nor reasonable.
