It goes in with the issues of people impersonating police officers, then impersonating other government functions. I don't see what the big issue is.
It sort of reminds me of the little Filipino guy who I saw a few times at gun shows wearing his "collection" of law enforcement paraphernalia. Came up to my table with a DEA jacket on and then I noticed the mismatch of US Marshalls hat, and then he picked up an Hk94 and could not figure out how the magazine catch worked. The thing had the paddle mag conversion, but anyone trained on a .gov MP5 would know how that works, so he starts asking about it, and I notice his limited understanding of English.
"Hey, WTF you can't find the mag release? What did you buy that jacket on ebay or something?"
"Well yeah I did, paid $85 for it, the real thing".
"Dude, what the fuck, oh waitaminute, you are one of those Asian airsoft guys, you collect that stuff right?"
"Yes, I have a large collection at home, we wear out items to collector shows like this one, except you of course have the real guns".
"Uh, listen, that's not exactly cool here. You see, these shows in the US are generally attended by two types of people, those who are with the government and don't like impersonators, or people who really don't like the government and would gladly mess you up if they could catch you alone, you need to be not wearing that stuff around if you are not on the job".
They guy really had a problem understanding because to him, wearing a "genuine" BATF or DEA jacket around would be like going to a football game wearing a jersey from your favorite team or favorite player. Thing is, it just is not "cool" these days when it comes to government stuff. I see someone wearing something with the USMC, then I assume they are somehow connected with the USMC.
Now with these government agency things, I get spam emails all of the time, and one thing that can and does happen at airports is imposters of one kind shaking people down for personal information, sometimes even money, and most people figure that since its for the government, they ought to give it up, that's what the feds most likely have a problem with, not to mention one shady company that was importing dope in an airliner marked as "Department of Homeland Security" and bullying US Customs away from their dope loads.
