I think your looking at this all wrong...
Let's say they get the North east and Left coast. pretty soon all the Progressives who want that lifestyle, would leave for the socialist utopia. So would all the Illegals.
You see they get health care, driver licenses and work permits. free housing.
They taxed all the rich people till they left with their businesses to the New southern republic.
They collapse themselves.
Let them have their little socialist utopia in the North east.
In a few years they would be begging the Republic in the south for help and the socialist would be hanging from the capital.
