splinter war indeed. Something I had not thought of is what if some of the wealthy foreign interests make a series of offers to purchase the most high tech force projection portions of our military outright? Those in charge of naval groups overseas accepting offers to worl for well heeled "allied" nations in return for full pay and evacuation of friends and family from the chaos of civil war by heavily defended airlift and floatilla. It is audacious, but something some countries could afford id the US military were being dismantled and sold off.
Imagine some caravan of Saudi sheiks showing up to a Kuwaiti military base after several months of no pay, food shipments paid for un US dollars getting more infrequent, then they approach the commanding general and his staff with a very well funded and respectful offer along with a list of grievances they wish to have settled with some unruly neighbors.
That is chillingly close to an offer being implied right now by by the Saudis over Syria.
