“A Washington Post-ABC News poll asked unvaccinated workers whose employers have yet to impose a vaccine mandate what they were likely to do if getting vaccinated was required to go into the workplace. The poll found 16 percent of unvaccinated workers would get the shot, 35 percent would ask for a medical or religious exemption and 42 percent would quit their job. When asked what they would do if they weren’t given an exemption to opt out of the requirement, 18 percent of those surveyed said they would comply and 72 percent said they would quit.”

Small businesses, which have been gradually crushed by corporations over the decades, and especially the previous two years, could benefit from the consequences of corporate authoritarianism. Amid the ongoing nation-wide labor shortage, corporations engaging in vaccine coercion appear likely to shed a large percentage of its employees. Given that those employees will be leaving to escape corporate authoritarianism, it’s likely that very many will seek employment by a small business. While it’s unlikely that small businesses will be capable of suddenly absorbing all of these qualified applicants, they may be capable of absorbing enough to turn the tables, beginning a new trend of small business growth. This is especially true if a large number of employees fleeing corporate authoritarianism are made to understand that’s what they’re fleeing, and also to understand that a boycott of corporate products and services in favor small business products and services is not only to their benefit, but crucial to their long-term well-being.
