There is much mention of Gold and Silver coin.

But what of Copper, Bronze, Nickel, etc?

Platinum?

How many silver coins equals a gold coin? How many coppers would be a silver?

Copper is running $2.60 per pound last I checked and thats a high price. Back in the 80s it was around 60 cents.

As of 1925 hours on 20 Sept 2007:

Copper - $3.5813/lb.

Nickel - $14.6579/lb.

Platinum - $1323.00/troy oz.

Gold - $733.50/troy oz.

Silver - $13.33/troy oz.

1 Troy ounce is equal to 1.097 Avoirdupois ounce. So to answer your question:

The price of 55.03 one troy ounce silver coins is equal to the price of one troy ounce gold coin.

One troy ounce of copper is worth $.2455, so 54.29 troy ounces of copper is equal to one troy ounce of silver.

I remember when copper was .60 a lb. I could have invested in copper even.

I think the ability to "make change" might be necessary.

Old silver coins are one way to make change. Dollar coins, half dollars, quarters, and dimes dated 1964 and earlier are all made of 90% silver. At the silver price listed in my post above the following coins are worth the price indicated for the silver content only:

Dollar - $10.31

Half Dollar - $4.82

Quarter - $2.41

Dime - $.96

Check out my post regarding Commodity Investing on a Low Budget.

I would gladly lay aside the use of arms and settle matters by negotiation, but unless the whole will, the matter ends, and I take up my battle rifle, and thank God that He has put it within my grasp.
