I was reading a thread on GPS and it got me to thinking. I take it for granted being ever so slightly older then some here. I was trained before GPS.

Every militia member should be able to navigate by compass and read topogaphical maps. every member should be able to navigate at night by stars.
Every member should know how to navigate using the hands on their watch and time of day.
Every member should be able to use Long and Lat.

If you are relying on GPS only you could find yourself lost if the government decided to put some kind of program to control info from GPS Sats.

Or they could be shut down to civilian use.
We should practice being self contained soldiers able to find our way with out any electronic devices.

Whether they are shut down by the FEDs or by EMP.
It is up to every member to be able to navigate across this country with out help and in total darkness physical and electronic.

I believe in absolute Freedom, as little interference from any government as possible...And I'll fight any man trying to take that away from me.

Yep, GPS is a tool. Map reading and land nav is a skill.

I'd add that people should be able to estimate distances hiked, within 10% +/-, over varying terrain with and without a load.
