This is how that worker\'s paradise turned out. But at least their health care was free.

From Mao\'s Great Famine: The History of China\'s Most Devastating Catastrophe, 1958-1962 , by Frank Dikotter:

Quote
...State retribution for tiny thefts, such as stealing a potato, even by a child, would include being tied up and thrown into a pond; parents were forced to bury their children alive or were doused in excrement and urine, others were set alight, or had a nose or ear cut off. One record shows how a man was branded with hot metal. People were forced to work naked in the middle of winter; 80 per cent of all the villagers in one region of a quarter of a million Chinese were banned from the official canteen because they were too old or ill to be effective workers, so were deliberately starved to death. ..
Mao's "Great Leap Forward" killed approximately 45 million people in just four years, between 1958 and 1962. To put that in perspective, the death toll for the entire Second World War is about 55 million.

Mr. Dikotter delved into official Chinese archives for the material in this book.

Ain't Actual Communism great?

If that is free healthcare, then I have no problem paying full-fare for medical treatment, although without large money, it is very difficult to find and retain a competent doctor.

I would gladly lay aside the use of arms and settle matters by negotiation, but unless the whole will, the matter ends, and I take up my battle rifle, and thank God that He has put it within my grasp.

Communism espouses "equality."

The only equality, among the proles at least, is equality in misery and suffering.

Notice how "Great Leap Forward" and "progress" sound so similar?

On training: Our drills are bloodless battles so that our battles are bloody drills.
On tactics: Cheating just means you're serious about winning.

While hitler was the anti-christ, it's funny how history forgets those who were worse, namely stalin, and later mao.

There is a story in your words. When the average man was illiterate he kept his history in his bible so everyone he cared about could read it over the generations.
When the federal government corporation forced the average man to go to Government schools and banned his bible from all places public the Government paid, supported, and influenced professors began to keep the history. That is they kept their version of the history.
Today many average men are again beginning to keep their history in their bibles in hope that their children will read it and know the truth, or at least question the Government version.

That is the problem. Communism and socialism mistake poverty for equality.

Considering the lifestyle, I don't believe anyone who ever occupied the kremlin could have been considered a pauper. Equality is impossible. But opportunity to advance... Yes capitalsim is boss.

A new article by Frank Dikotter:

Quote
My recent research relies on hundreds of hitherto unseen party archives, including secret reports from the Public Security Bureau, detailed minutes of top party meetings, unexpurgated versions of important leadership speeches, surveys of working conditions in the countryside, investigations into cases of mass murder, confessions of leaders responsible for the deaths of millions of people, inquiries compiled by special teams sent in to discover the extent of the catastrophe in the last stages of the Great Leap Forward, general reports on peasant resistance during the collectivisation campaign, secret police opinion surveys, letters of complaint written by ordinary people and much more.

What comes out of this massive and detailed dossier is a tale of horror in which Chairman Mao emerges as one of the greatest mass murderers in human history, responsible for the premature deaths of at least 45 million people between 1958 and 1962. It is not merely the extent of the catastrophe that dwarfs earlier estimates, but also the manner in which many people died: between two and three million victims were tortured to death or summarily killed, often for the slightest infraction. When a boy stole a handful of grain in a Hunan village, local boss Xiong Dechang forced his father to bury him alive. The father died of grief a few days later. The case of Wang Ziyou was reported to the central leadership: one of his ears was chopped off, his legs were tied with iron wire, a ten-kilo stone was dropped on his back and then he was branded with a sizzling tool – as punishment for digging up a potato. The discriminate killing of slackers, weaklings, or otherwise unproductive elements increased the overall food supply for those who contributed to the regime through their labour.
Read the whole article. Then buy the book, and pass it along to your favorite Democrat. Or favorite Republican. There really isn't much difference.

Onward and upward,
airforce
