Live Off the Land in the City and the Country by Ragnar Benson.

I don't necessarily agree with everything in the book, but it's a great introduction to surviving when things go bad. Try some of the traps and snares, find what edible wild foods are in your area, and it even has little bit about brain tanning pelts.

It's a great introduction, and hopefully it will inspire you to learn more, and especially practice what you learn.

Peterson Field Guide to Animal tracks , the third edition of the classic guide by Olaus Murie. If you're a hunter or trapper, or are just curious about what critters are around, this is the best of the field guides.
