Chinese theft of intellectual property is a real thing, and there are ways to combat it rather than using tariffs. However, and I can't say this often enough, there is no such thing as a trade deficit.

So what if China is subsidizing their steel industry, and exporting steel to the U.S. at below cost? Who gains and who loses from that? The U.S. loses some steel-making jobs. but other businesses that use steel will grow and employ more people. China employs more steel workers. But everyone in China pays for that, in the form of higher taxes and higher prices for their own steel products. In the end, the U.S. gains from cheap imported steel and China loses from subsidizing their steel industry.

It's great that our economy is grown, and is expected to keep growing. Why jeopardize that with a needless and counterproductive trade war?
