“In Spokane, they’re turning people away from the Christmas Bureau food assistance. People in need have to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination or proof of a negative COVID test no more than 72 hours old. If you don’t have the vax or show proof of a COVID test you are turned away.”

“The Department of Justice asked the Supreme Court on Thursday to allow a vaccine mandate aimed at certain extra health care workers to go into effect nationwide, marking the first time the justices have been asked to weigh in on a federal mandate the Biden administration put in place in order to get more Americans vaccinated in the midst of a surge of the Delta and Omicron coronavirus variants. So far, lower courts have blocked the health care worker mandate from being enforced in about half the country.”

“The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals declined Wednesday to hear ‘en banc’ the case against President Joe Biden’s rule forcing large private employers to vaccinate or COVID-19 test their employees ... The full court voted 8-8 on the petition, denying the request which needed a clear 9-vote majority to proceed. Judge Karen Nelson Moore wrote the majority opinion, joined by four other judges on the court, arguing that an en banc hearing on the case is unnecessary and impractical. In a dissent signed by half of the court’s judges, Chief Judge Jeffrey Sutton expressed deep skepticism in the Biden order’s legality, however ... at least half of the court is deeply skeptical of the Biden mandate’s legality.“

“Gov. Mike DeWine said Friday he is deploying the Ohio National Guard to help with staffing shortages across the state in hospitals ... DeWine said starting Monday, 1,050 guard members will begin to be deployed at hospitals across the state ... The deployment has no set end date ... his staff said the governor would only accept pre-screened questions from reporters that were related to the announcement. Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer did not agree to the condition and did not submit a question ... Of the guard members, 150 will be trained medical personnel such as nurses or emergency medical technicians, the governor said. The rest will have no special medical training ... DeWine also said the state is working with an in-state medical staffing agency to try to help hospitals meet their staffing needs too.”

“Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said the ‘test to stay’ strategy would increase testing of children and their close contacts after an exposure to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in order to prevent the child from having to isolate at home and miss time in class. The new guideline allows children to remain in school after an exposure under certain circumstances, including undergoing multiple tests. For children to remain in school, two negative tests within a week after the exposure are required.”

“Lawmakers are once again fast-tracking a bill that could discourage Indiana companies from mandating COVID-19 vaccines ... it's a top priority for Republican lawmakers. The majority of the Republican House caucus has signed onto the bill ... Under the bill, private businesses that have COVID-19 vaccine mandates must grant employees exemptions for religious or medical reasons. They also must give employees the choice to get tested weekly on the employer's dime instead of vaccinated. Likewise, businesses would have to allow exemptions for those employees who had recovered from COVID-19 in the prior six months, due to the evidence of COVID antibodies after infection. Some changes have been made to the proposal since lawmakers attempted a one-day session. The current version no longer includes exemptions for pregnant people and the updated bill will likely codify some pandemic measures that made it easier for providers with out-of-state licenses and those who have retired to return to health care”
