My wife and I are starting to talk seriously about moving away from our current location just across the Potomac from the District of Criminals. Our thinking is that we want to move to a place that would be good for weathering the hard times that are coming.

I would prefer hilly acreage and solitude; my wife prefers to have a community to plug in to. So I'm thinking that a small farmette just outside a small city or medium to large town would be good.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on what you might look for in a small city or medium to large town that would be conducive to surviving the upcoming bumpies.

Some things I've thought of are that it should have fresh water nearby, have at least one hospital, have railroad tracks that run through or near the town, and have a municipal airport within a reasonable distance. I'd also prefer that it not be near a military base or have any federal government presence (e.g., the FBI facility and DoD office in Clarksburg, W.Va.).

What else should I consider?
